US Industry Warming To Climate Change Fight

Washington (AFP) Feb 14, 2007 - Saving the planet is a worthy goal, but corporate America also sees money to be made in the fight against global warming. First, however, the US business world needs its skeptical government to pave the legal and regulatory path to climate riches. Former Federal Reserve vice chairman Roger Ferguson, now a top executive at insurance giant Swiss Re, spelt out the case for government action at a climate change conference of global legislators held at the US Senate Tuesday.

Cold Storage Solution For Global Warming

Leicester, UK (SPX) Feb 09, 2007 - Researchers from the University of Leicester and the British Geological Society (BGS) have proposed storing CO2 in huge underground reservoirs as a way of reducing emissions- and have even identified sites in Western Europe that would be suitable. Their research, published in the journal, Planet Earth, reveals that CO2 can be contained in cool geological aquifers or reservoirs, where it can remain harmlessly for many thousands of years.

Chinese firms win 1.46 bln dollar hydro project in Nigeria

Abuja (AFP) Feb 07, 2007 - The Nigerian government awarded Wednesday a 1.46 billion dollar contract to two Chinese companies to construct a massive hydro-electric project in northeastern Nigeria, the energy minister said. The project is being funded under a bilateral arrangement with China. It is part of the package relationship we have with China whereby they undertake major infrastructural projects for us, the minister, Edmund Daukoru, said.
