Denmark Banks On Offshore Wind Power For Clean Future

Esbjerg, Denmark (AFP) May 10, 2007 - Denmark, a world leader in wind energy production and consumption, has built the world's largest offshore wind park in the North Sea as it aims to generate 75 percent of its electricity needs with wind power by 2025. Looking out from the port of Esbjerg, the blades of 80 giant wind turbines rotate high in the sky at the Horns Reef wind farm some 20 kilometers (12 miles) offshore.

Papua New Guinea Islanders Drive Their Cars On Coconut Power

Bougainville, PNG (ANI) May 10, 2007 - Residents of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea have found an indigenous solution to high-energy prices, the ubiquitous tropical fruit, coconut. The islanders are developing mini-refineries to produce a coconut oil that can eventually replace diesel. Residents say, coconut oil has not only made them less dependant on expensive fuel, which had to be imported onto the island, enquiries about the fuel have even come from overseas, including Iran and Europe.

Shaw AFB To Begin One-Year Hybrid Refueler Test

Shaw AFB SC (AFNS) May 10, 2007 - Fuels Airmen here are putting the Air Force's only R-11 Hybrid Electric Aviation Refueler through its paces during a one-year test that began here this month. The test will determine how much the 72,000-pound hybrid reduces emissions and conserves diesel fuel, potentially saving the Air Force money, said 2nd Lt. Zack Buckallew, 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle maintenance flight commander.

GE To Supply Additional 600 Megawatts Of Wind Turbines To Invenergy

Atlanta GA (SPX) May 04, 2007 - GE Energy will provide an additional 600 megawatts of wind turbines to Invenergy Wind for 2008 projects in the United States and Canada. Invenergy previously announced the purchase of 600 megawatts of GE Energy wind turbines for 2007 projects. The latest order brings the total to 1,200 megawatts of GE 1.5-megawatt machines for projects over the next two years -- enough power for more than 300,000 homes.
