The energy focus is currently on ethanol as a fuel, but economical ethanol from cellulose is 10 years down the road, says Bruce E. Logan, the Kappe professor of environmental engineering. First you need to break cellulose down to sugars and then bacteria can convert them to ethanol.

University Of Virginia Scientists Discover Record-Breaking Hydrogen Storage Materials For Use In Fuel Cells

Richmond VA (SPX) Nov 14, 2007 - Scientists at the University of Virginia have discovered a new class of hydrogen storage materials that could make the storage and transportation of energy much more efficient - and affordable - through higher-performing hydrogen fuel cells. Western Wind To Purchase 120 MW Of Wind Turbine Generators For Windstar

Vancouver, Canada (SPX) Nov 13, 2007 - Western Wind Energy is pleased to announce that negotiations have commenced with several major wind turbine manufacturers for the delivery of up to 120 MW of nameplate wind turbine generators in the Mega watt and Multi Mega watt class. The wind turbines will be deployed on Western Wind Energy's Windstar project located in Tehachapi, California. Delivery is anticipated in late 2008 and commissioning is anticipated in early 2Q 2009.

Iraqi Crew Works To Expand Electrical Generation

Baghdad, Iraq (SPX) Nov 12, 2007 - The Qudas electric generation facility in northern Baghdad is getting two new gas turbines that will add 200 megawatts of power to the national grid. A crew of more than 150 Iraqis is involved with the $160 million project, and this month the team is placing 1,000 cubic meters of concrete to create the pedestals where the new turbines will be located. The contractor expects to have the new turbines on line and providing electrical power to Iraq in the spring.

The Dutch Want To Produce Gas On Yamal

Moscow (RIA Novosti) Nov 12, 2007 - Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende proposed that Russian and Dutch companies headed by Royal Dutch Shell should jointly develop the richest gas fields on the Yamal Peninsula located above the Arctic Circle. Although the Yamal Peninsula is in the sphere of strategic interests of Russian state-controlled natural gas monopoly Gazprom, the Dutch initiative may appeal to the Russian authorities.
