Analysis: U.K. firm to audit Turkmen gas

Washington (UPI) Mar 28, 2008 - Since the death in December 2005 of Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov, Western energy firms have longingly eyed Turkmenistan's vast natural gas reserves, which even during the Soviet era were estimated at 10 trillion to 14 trillion cubic meters, exceeded only by those of the Russian Federation. Among the potential suitors for Ashgabat's favor, no firms were more ardent than U.S. companies. Alas, once again for Washington, the groom has been left at the altar.

Riverstone Invests In Shelter Bay Energy

New York NY (SPX) Mar 28, 2008 - Riverstone Holdings has announced it will provide capital to fund the growth of Shelter Bay Energy, a privately held exploration and production company focused in the Bakken light oil play in southeast Saskatchewan. The investment is part of Shelter Bay's plans to raise C$625 million. Riverstone is joined by Kelso and Company, Crescent Point Energy Trust, Goldman Sachs, and Trafelet and Company. Terms were not disclosed.
