Analysis: Gazprom moves in on Kyrgyzstan

Washington (UPI) Oct 2, 2008 - If there's one easy target for American consumers to revile, it's energy cartels, with OPEC having been the media's favorite whipping boy for years as the dark force perceived to be behind high oil prices. For Europeans, the focus is somewhat different, as Russia's state monopoly Gazprom increasingly consolidates its position as Europe's major supplier of natural gas, leaving Washington increasingly to mutter about the European Union's dependency upon Russia, which currently supplies about 25 percent of the European Union's natural gas imports.

China Energy Recovery To Acquire 30 MW Heat Recovery Power Generation System

Shanghai, China (SPX) Sep 29, 2008 - China Energy Recovery, Inc. (China Energy Recovery or CER), a leader in the waste-heat energy recovery sector of the alternative energy industry, today announced that the company has entered into a design service contract with Sinochem Fuling Chongqing Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (Sinochem Fuling) for the detailed engineering design of a 30 MW Heat Recovery Power Generation System. The value of the design service contract is estimated to be RMB 960,000 (approximately $140,000 as of the date of this press release). The announcement was made by the Chairman and CEO of China Energy Recovery, Mr. Qinghuan Wu.

Federal Incentives Have Chiefly Benefited Oil And Natural Gas Industries

Washington DC (SPX) Sep 29, 2008 - The main beneficiaries of more than $700 billion of federal energy incentives over the past five decades have been the oil and natural gas industries, a new study reveals. The oil and natural gas industries together garnered 60 percent of federal incentives between 1950 and 2006, with 46 percent of the roughly $725 billion in federal support going to the oil sector, according to the report by the consulting firm Management Information Services Inc (MISI).

Georgia’s Oglethorpe Power Launches Large Biomass Initiative

Portland ME (SPX) Sep 29, 2008 - USA Biomass, the nation's leading association of biopower companies, urges our national leaders to take a cue from the recent announcement by Georgia's Oglethorpe Power Corporation (OPC) that it will undertake the single largest biomass initiative in that state - and maybe the country - by building as many as three 100-megawatt (MW) biomass electric generating plants by 2015.
