18 Nov 2019: DTEK in partnership with the Danish company Vestas, the world's leading producer of wind turbines, has completed the construction of 100 MW Orlovska Wind Power Plant in Ukraine. This takes DTEK's "green" energy generation up to 1 GW, satisfying one of the company's strategic goals for 2020.
Orlovska WPP is DTEK's third project in the wind energy sector. The plant is located on the coast of the Sea of Azov in Zaporizhzhia Region. The WPP has 26 Vestas wind turbines generating 3.8 MW each. Investments in Orlovska WPP amounted to EUR 131 mln, EUR 40 mln of which account for the services and equipment of Ukrainian contractors.
Orlovska WPP will generate close to 370 mln kWh of renewable energy annually, enough to power about 190 thousand households. The operation of Orlovska WPP will help reduce CO2 emissions by 400 thousand tonnes per year.
"Two years ago, DTEK unveiled its strategic goal – to reach 1 GW of renewable energy generation capacity by the end of 2019. Today, we have achieved it, having invested more than EUR 1 bln in Ukrainian renewable energy and having created a unique expertise thanks to which these large-scale and innovative projects have been implemented," said Maksym Tymchenko, CEO of DTEK.
"Now, our company has set a new ambitious goal to build another 1 GW of capacity by the end of 2022. We are confident that Ukraine can become a leader of decarbonisation in Europe, providing our country with its own, clean energy. And we call on all stakeholders to unite around this idea," he added.
Overall in 2019, DTEK Renewables launched renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 740 MW: Nikopolska SPP (200 AC/240 DC MW), Pokrovska SPP (240 AC/323 DC MW), Prymorska WPP (200 MW), and Orlovska WPP (100 MW). DTEK Renewables previously completed its Botievska WPP (200 MW) and Tryfanivska SPP (10 MW). The constructed plants will generate almost 2.5 bln kWh of renewable energy, while reducing emissions by 2.6 mln tonnes.
