A Canadian NATO soldier was killed in a traffic accident Friday in southern Afghanistan, a defense ministry spokeswoman said Saturday.
"I can confirm that the soldier who was killed in the road accident was Canadian," spokeswoman Tanya Barnes told AFP.
Earlier, NATO announced that an alliance soldier had been killed, but it did not specify his nationality.
Three Canadian soldiers were also wounded in the accident, the spokeswoman said.
Barnes said one of the wounded soldiers was in serious condition and was transported to a military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany.
NATO said the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers were traveling in an armored jeep as part of a convoy when the accident took place.
The cause was not known, but "enemy action has been ruled out," it said.
The latest death brings to 24 the number of Canadian military personnel killed in Afghanistan by bomb attacks or road accidents.
