The Turkish Red Cross on Tuesday dispatched 20.8 tonnes of urgent humanitarian aid to Lebanon, crippled by Israeli air strikes, a spokesman for the agency said.
Two trucks laden with baby food, diapers, medicine and kitchen utensils are expected to reach the operational centre of the International Committe of the Red Cross in Syria in four or five days, Selahattin Bostan told AFP.
"If an aid route is opened to Lebanon, our trucks will cross into Lebanon. If not, the Lebanese Red Cross will pick up the material," Bostan said.
Tonnes of aid destined for Lebanese people displaced by the Israeli bombing have been stuck in Syria for lack of a guaranteed safe route to deliver the material.
Muslim but secular Turkey has been highly critical of its ally Israel's assault on Lebanon, accusing the Jewish state of using excessive force.
