Israeli warplanes and attack helicopters pounded a Hezbollah stronghold in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley overnight, without claiming any victims, police here said.

Four helicopters released eight missiles and fighter jets staged more than 55 raids on Kilya-Dalafa in the Bekaa, east of the capital, they said.

The area is as a staging ground for Hezbollah attacks against Israel, some 30 kilometers (20 miles) to the south, and according to locals houses several rocket launch sites.

Earlier Thursday, Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon and the Bekaa killed five people, according to police.

Since the start of the Israeli offensive against the Shiite militia Hezbollah, on July 12, more than 400 people have been killed in Lebanon, most of them civilians.
