A military airplane crashed Thursday in central Turkey, killing the pilot and two soldiers on the ground, the general staff said in a statement.

A military airplane crashed Thursday in central Turkey, killing the pilot and two soldiers on the ground, the general staff said in a statement.

The jet, a United States-made F-5A, crashed shortly after takeoff from a military base in the city of Konya, the statement said. The cause of the crash was not yet known.

The plane plunged onto the runway seconds after take-off, media reports said.
