Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi will travel in September to China, which is hosting a year of Italian cultural events, his office said Tuesday.
A large ministerial delegation will accompany Prodi on the September 13-18 visit, which will coincide with a trade fair to be held in Guangzhou and attended by an Italian business delegation, the office said.
The Italian leader has stressed since taking office in May that strengthening ties with China would be a policy priority.
Immediately after his visit to China, Prodi will continue on to New York to attend the UN General Assembly set for September 19-21.
