Neil Reilly, the Labor Party's Federal Electorate Council President for Gilmore (which now includes Batemans Bay), stated that the development of the Princes Highway is the highest road priority for Labor in the electorate. Mr. Reilly commented that "The refusal by the Howard Government for the Princes Highway south of Wollongong to be included in the Auslink national funding program is a dereliction of duty. Lives and livelihoods are at stake."
"The sorry state of the road requires urgent attention, and at the forthcoming Labor Conference in Sydney, we intend to give this vital national highway our full focus." Mr Reilly said.
Mr Reilly, with the assistance of Bateman's Bay Labor delegates, will raise the upgrade of the Princes Highway as matter for urgent policy attention.
Mr Reilly said, "The current member for Gilmore holds court all over, but when it comes to policy and influence with her colleagues who do the work in Canberra, our part of the world seems not to exist. The current federal member once again has abdicated her federal duties in favour of state and local issues"I would be surprised if she's even mentioned the state of the road in Parliament."
Mr Reilly is standing for Labor pre-selection for the next federal Election. His stand is strongly supported by those who for business, pleasure or necessity want a better Princess Highway..
