Radyne ComStream has signed a contract with Beijing Aerospace Satellite Applications Company (BASA) to supply China Qingdao Haier Group with Raydne ComStream technology to establish Haier's first nationwide Corporate Hi-speed Intranet. The initial contract is valued at $375,000 and is expected to increase substantially.

The DT8000 Digital Earth Station is a fully integrated turnkey satellite communication system. In point-to-point or point-to-multipoint communications applications, Radyne ComStream's earth stations transmit and receive signals over satellite. The DT8000 is the ideal communication solution for organizations or companies located in areas where traditionally wired communications systems are not available or are unreliable.

"According to Dr. Jun Du, General Manager of BASA, the satellite communications stations will provide Haier with a high-speed backbone network for 30 sales offices, customer centers, and factories throughout China. The modular architecture of Radyne ComStream's products is important as they can easily add functionality to the basis unit in order to meet changing customer requirements. The first application of our project will include data capability, the second phase will focus on providing voice and video conferencing services."

"We are honored that BASA selected Radyne ComStream as the supplier of choice", says Bob Fitting, President and CEO of Raydne ComStream. "This is a very important project for us and an important stepping stone for additional systems sales in China."

Dr. Du states, "We carefully evaluated the benefits of several satellite technology solutions, and selected Radyne ComStream's system as the most cost-effective and optimal technology. The DT8000 gave us a platform to meet our current needs and one that could expand services in the future."

"With a population approaching 1.5 billion, the importance of the Intranet industry in China cannot be understated," Dr. Du adds. "We felt that Radyne ComStream's expertise, the size of its customer base in China and in the world, and the strength of its in-country sales and service resources made them an ideal partner."
