Northrop Grumman has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Air Force to provide radar system spares in support of the ongoing B-1 bomber sustainment effort. The B-1 aircraft provides a unique long range strike capability with a large and varied payload. The B-1's offensive radar system, also known as the AN/APQ-164, was designed and manufactured by Northrop Grumman in the 1980s to provide target detection, location, tracking and accurate weapon delivery capability.
The B-1 spares program funds radar system components and parts for total system sustainment capability in support of long-term B-1 life cycle requirements.
The value of the spares contract is $18.9 million. The work will be performed at the company's Baltimore facility.
"This contract continues our 20 year partnership with the Air Force to assure continued support of the B-1 radar sustainment efforts," said John Johnson, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman's Aerospace Systems Division.
