Northrop Grumman Corporation has announced the appointment of David H. Barakat as vice president of programs and technology. In this position, Barakat will provide the leadership for corporate activities associated with program management, engineering and technology, including serving as functional lead for engineering collaboration efforts across the company, conducting special program reviews and serving as the corporate focal point for the company's technology customers. He will report to Wes Bush, Northrop Grumman's president and chief financial officer.

For 35 years Barakat has been responsible for the management, design, development and implementation of hardware and software systems developed for a wide variety of applications for national and international customers. He has held positions in business acquisition, project management and general management, and has been responsible for strategic planning activities.

During this time he served as a vice president and general manager of the Intelligence Systems Division for TRW Systems. Most recently Barakat was vice president of programs at Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems sector, responsible for providing management, technical and programmatic oversight for major programs across the organization. Northrop Grumman acquired TRW Inc. in 2002.

Barakat earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a master's degree in business administration from University of California at Los Angeles. He has completed professional certification programs at Stanford University and Harvard University.
