French industrial group iXblue will upgrade the inertial and navigation equipment on six German frigates as part of a deal signed in August, the company announced Wednesday.
Under the contract, the company will supply Marins M3 and Netans N3 systems to the German navy for the upgrade of four Brandenburg-class frigates and two F122 Bremen-class frigates, the company said in a statement.
Germany chose the company to replace its obsolete frigate systems after the company integrated the Octans systems into the service's Seehund vessels in 2013.
The Marins family of navigational systems is based on iXblue's fiber-optic gyroscope technology, while the Netans line brings the ability to acquire, analyze, process, consolidate and transmit all navigation data to external systems.
iXblue systems are also used by the British and Swedish navies.
