A noted authority in cosmetic surgery, reconstruction following cancer surgery and trauma, as well as tissue-engineered approaches to wound healing, Dr. Robert T. Grant has been appointed to chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He will oversee the division at the Hospital's two major medical centers — NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center.
He was also named adjunct associate professor of clinical surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College; he is associate clinical professor of surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

"Plastic surgery plays a very important role by mitigating the destructive effects of trauma, disease or congenital defects — helping patients lead normal lives," says Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, chairman of the Department of Surgery and the Lewis Atterbury Stimson Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and surgeon-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell.
"Dr. Grant has proven to be an adept leader in plastic surgery. I am very pleased that he will head this joint division for NewYork-Presbyterian," says Dr. Eric Rose, the Milstein Professor and chairman of surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and surgeon-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia.
Dr. Grant received his medical degree at Albany Medical College and completed residencies in general surgery and plastic surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell. Following a fellowship in microsurgery at NYU Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital, Dr. Grant assumed leadership of the Division of Plastic Surgery at North Shore University Hospital/NYU School of Medicine in 1991. He became director of the plastic surgery residency program at NewYork-Presbyterian and site-chief of plastic surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia in 1999. Dr. Grant also holds an M.S. degree in management from NYU.
Board certified in general surgery and plastic surgery, Dr. Grant is a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Leak Memorial Fellowship, Albany Medical College's Alden March Award, and the NYU Wagner School of Public Service's Public Service Scholar Award.
