Brisbane-based Tritium, manufacture of the world's most advanced fast charger for electric vehicles (EV), has announced its latest Veefil is now operational at the Brisbane BMW Dealership, with no charge for its use by the public.

The Veefil, which has won awards for both its design and technology, will be available to use 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It can add 50Km range to an EV battery charge in just 10 minutes and is 25 times faster than home charging.

Launched just 20 months ago, Tritium's, Veefil is now marketed around the world and is currently the most technologically-advanced fast charger in its class.

"This is the only fast charger to be designed and manufactured in Australia and we are extremely proud to see this first unit in our home city – and in a location which is fully behind encouraging the adoption of EVs in our city," comments Paul Sernia, Tritium's commercial director.

The Brisbane BMW Dealership, located in Fortitude Valley, recently took delivery of BMW's acclaimed BMW i3 which is attracting enormous interest in the region.

"We have the most advanced technology in our showrooms, and so we wanted the most advanced fast charger on our forecourt to complement the car, says Brisbane BMW managing director Martin Roller "Electric vehicle are now a real option for Australians and Brisbane is the perfect place to drive this type of vehicle.

"You would expect to get between 130km-160km from the i3 on a full charge and, if needed, a top-up from the Veefil is only going to take 10 minutes. But of course the charger is available for use by drivers of any make of electric vehicle and it supports both CHAdeMO and CCS standards."

Veefil Electric Vehicle Fast Charger – Unique Features

+ The world's only aluminium structure and liquid-cooled fast charger, functioning in -35 degrees C to +55 degrees C. This makes it more robust than other chargers over a wide range of environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity and corrosive conditions – increasing reliability and reducing maintenance.

+ Has the smallest footprint and lowest weight of all DC EV fast chargers, increasing location options and reducing shipping and installation costs. It can fit neatly at the end of a standard parking bay within existing infrastructure.

+ Weighs only 165 kg – at least half the weight of most other EV fast chargers – and is a polycarbonate and aluminium construction, ensuring long-term stability of the entire enclosure, which leads to lower maintenance costs.

+ Attractive design, easy to use – awarded 2014 Good Design Australia Award.
