Expand Networks, the leading provider of WAN compression and acceleration appliances, today announced an OEM agreement with EMS Technologies, a leading provider of technology solutions to wireless and satellite markets.

Using Expand's patented ACCELERATOR solution, EMS Technologies has released its Cabin Network Xcelerator product (CNX, a wide area network optimization device designed to increase mobile satellite bandwidth capacity by 100-400%, more than doubling the number of users on an existing satellite link, while improving application performance and saving significant airtime costs.

The agreement is part of Expand's "Powered by Expand" strategic initiative to embed the company's market-leading technology into vertical industry solutions. (See Expand Networks Introduces "Powered By Expand" OEM Program", also released today).

The established U.S. market leader in PCS and cellular base station antennas, EMS Technologies develops and manufactures advanced technology hardware products for commercial space, defense and wireless communications, focusing primarily on the needs of mobile satellite users.

The CNX device is transparent to network operations and increases effective in-air bandwidth by using the same-patented Expand algorithms, which already accelerate more than 15,000 terrestrial links worldwide. To form a complete system, the airborne CNX device communicates with its terrestrial peer, the EMS Xstream 4800 link accelerator. Both the airborne CNX device and the ground-based Xstream 4800 product are based on Expand Networks patented ACCELERATOR technology.

"Modern business communications via mobile satellite inherently have bandwidth and latency challenges," said Neil Mackay, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, SATCOM Division, of EMS Technologies. "Working with Expand Networks, we are able to improve system performance by delivering the Cabin Network Xcelerator device to create a broadband quality connection and facilitate real-time en-route communications."

"Recent trends show a growing demand for WAN compression and acceleration solutions not only in the corporate office but in other critical areas as well, including the airborne office, where communications are essential," said Ariel Shulman, vice president, business development at Expand Networks.

"Through this partnership, EMS Technologies has developed the Cabin Xcelerator device, which makes the airborne office a reality by delivering efficient and reliable global travel communications to individuals that require continuous data connectivity."

Powered by Expand is a multi-level Original Equipment Manufacturer partner program designed to enable customers in new geographic and vertical markets to realize the potential of bandwidth acceleration solutions.

With this new program, partners will be able to embed Expand's market-leading technology into their vertical industry solutions or private label ACCELERATORs as part of a customized networked solution. Powered by Expand helps OEMs to grow their business while improving margins, reducing costs and providing the ability to offer solutions of greater value to their customers.
