Eagle Broadband announced Tuesday it has received and delivered an order for the company's Satellite Media Access Extender (SatMAX) non-line-of-sight satellite communications technology from Norfolk Southern Corporation.
Its Norfolk Southern Railway subsidiary operates approximately 21,300 route miles in 22 states, the District of Columbia and Ontario, Canada, serving every major container port in the eastern United States and providing superior connections to western rail carriers.
NS operates the most extensive intermodal network in the East and is North America's largest rail carrier of automotive parts and finished vehicles.
Norfolk Southern's deployment plan includes use of SatMAX technology within the company's corporate headquarters enabling personnel to use their existing Iridium satellite phones to concurrently make fully wireless voice and data calls from inside offices.
The enhanced, non-line-of-sight, satellite communications and wireless mobility made possible by SatMAX can help ensure reliable communications for both routine, everyday communications as well as uninterrupted backup communications in the event of an emergency.
