EchoStar Communications announced Thursday that its Dish Network will offer local TV channels by satellite television to the island of Puerto Rico.

The following local TV channels will be available: Aerco Ch. 30 (WSJU), TuTv Ch. 6 (and Ch. 3) (WIPR), Telemundo Ch. 2 (WKAQ) and Televicentro Ch. 4 (WAPA). Most plan options will also include the New York local channels, which are: ABC Ch. 7 (WABC), CBS Ch. 2 (WCBS), FOX Ch. 5 (WNYW) and NBC Ch. 4 (WNBC).

This is the first time local TV channels are available on Dish Network satellite TV to Puerto Rico. The accessibility of local channels enhances the appeal of Dish Network's low-cost, digital TV option for Puerto Rico residents.

Dish Network offers local channels to Puerto Rico in its new Puerto Rico Offer, starting at $29.99 per a month. This plan offers customers 55 all-digital channels, including local channels, in 100 percent digital delivery and for most plans, New York distant networks, with options including digital video recording technology and pay-per-view.

Customers can call a local satellite TV retailer to learn how to upgrade or arrange an installation to receive Puerto Rico locals. Dish Network also provides high definition TV and more than 60 international, foreign-language channels.

"The introduction of local channel availability in Puerto Rico offers residents an all-digital, affordable option for TV service," said Eric Sahl, vice president of Programming.

"Customers in Puerto Rico now have more programming and product choices at a better price, with the ability to watch the news, weather and sports that matter most to them."

Dish Network offers local channels in 143 markets, in 50 states, plus the District of Columbia and now Puerto Rico.
