Digital Angel has announced its Indian distributor, SHM Shipcare of India, has been awarded a contract by the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) to supply 200 ships with the Company's McMurdo SMARTFIND emergency position indicating rescue beacons (EPIRBs). The contract also includes servicing.
McMurdo Sales and Marketing Director Jeremy Harrison commented, "We believe our EPIRBs are a vital part of shipboard safety equipment for ships of all sizes from small yachts to vast container vessels, and we are proud to be chosen for this contract with the largest shipping line in India, an emerging market for us. We believe this latest contract positions us well within the industry to win future contracts with commercial shippers around the world, especially in fast-growth, emerging markets such as India."
The SCI was established in October 1961 by the amalgamation of Eastern Shipping Corporation and Western Shipping Corporation. Starting out as a marginal Liner shipping company with just 19 vessels, the SCI today has grown into a giant conglomerate with 83 ships of 4.6 million DWT (deadweight tonnage) with substantial interests in 10 different segments of the shipping trade.
Sailing through for over four decades, the SCI today has a significant presence on the global maritime map and is undoubtedly India's premier shipping line. The SCI owns and operates about 35% of the Indian tonnage and operates in practically all areas of shipping business servicing both national and international trades.
