China has ordered 40 high-speed trains from the Canadian firm Bombardier and its Chinese partner for 1.0 billion euros (1.44 billion US dollars), Bombardier said in a statement received here.
It said the order won by Bombardier Sifang Power Transportation (BSP) "is the largest ever for a passenger train in the history of the Chinese rail sevtor."
Initial deliveries of trains, which will comprise 640 individual cars, are scheduled for February 2009.
BSP is a joint venture grouping Bombardier Transport, Power Corporation of Canada and China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Industry Corporation.
The new trains will be able to travel at speeds up to 250 kilometers (155 miles) an hour.
