CapRock Communications announced Monday that its South American operation, officially known as CapRock Comunicacoes do Brasil Ltda., has completed the initial phase of its facility expansion project and is now providing satellite services in the region.
The international teleport and operations center, located in Macae, Brazil, offers an extensive suite of satellite communication services under a Brazilian commercial license. The service area includes South America and the South Atlantic.
"We have finalized the completion of our new communications center and master earth station in Macae," said Managing Director of CapRock's South American Operations Douglas Tutt.
"While CapRock has been providing services for customers across South America for some time out of its Houston teleport, we now have an additional facility online that extends our commitment to customers in the region."
CapRock's investment in expanding its satellite communications services in South America began earlier this year with its acquisition of Blue Sky Comunicacoes do Brasil Ltda. and the purchase of an existing teleport facility in Macae.
CapRock also maintains sales and administrative offices in Rio de Janeiro. As part of the integration into CapRock, the Macae teleport was expanded significantly and interconnected to CapRock's global backbone network through terrestrial connections to Houston.
The new facility provides C-band based satellite services, with Ku-band services planned to come on line in the near future.
