Lightning killed five schoolchildren when it ripped through a classroom in northwestern Cameroon and caused around 50 others to be treated in hospital for trauma, authorities said Wednesday.
The children were killed instantly when a bolt of lightning flashed through their classroom on Monday, North West Region governor Abakar Ahamat told AFP.
Around 50 other children were traumatised by the strike and treated for shock in hospital, he added.
In a separate incident on the same day two girls aged four were killed when a wall of their classroom collapsed following heavy rains and flooding in western Cameroon, the Mutations daily newspaper said.
