An Azerbaijani Su-25 fighter jet crashed during a training exercise in the west of the ex-Soviet republic on Wednesday, killing its pilot, the defence ministry said.
The accident occurred at about 5:00 pm local time (1300 GMT) during a training flight over the Shamkir region near Azerbaijan's border with Georgia, the ministry said in a statement.
Azerbaijan's Dollyar military airbase is located in the region.
The ministry and military prosecutors are investigating the accident, the statement said.
The Su-25, a single-seat twin-engine fighter jet, was developed by the Soviet Union in the late 1970s and is still widely used by air forces in the former USSR.
