Editorial Team

The Energy Daily Editorial Team produces Energy Daily's coverage of the global energy industry. We report on oil and gas, power grids and utilities, energy markets and policy, and the renewables and storage reshaping how the world is powered. Articles reflect our team's collective editorial process, source verification, drafting, technical review, and editing, rather than a single writer's work. Energy Daily takes editorial responsibility for content under this byline. For more on how we work, see our editorial policy.

Advance Hastens Practicality Of Superconductivity

St. Louis MO (SPX) Mar 06, 2006 - Nobody completely understands superconductors. So fathom how James S. Schilling, Ph.D., led a team that makes the phenomenon work better. Schilling, a professor of physics in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, collaborated with recent doctoral graduate Takahiro Tomita and scientists at Argonne (Ill.) National Laboratory to determine whether one region in superconductors, called grain boundaries (GB), are oxygen deficient. Such oxygen deficiency impairs superconductor performance.

Think Solar Not Nuclear For The Energy Of The Future

London UK (SPX) Mar 02, 2006 - Solar rather than nuclear energy should be the UK government's priority in planning future energy production, according to scientists writing today in the journal Nature Materials. Challenging advocates of the nuclear option, researchers from Imperial College London argue in their Commentary article that photovoltaics, the direct conversion of sunlight to electricity, could match and exceed the nuclear industry's current output before any new reactor could begin operating.
