Beijing (AFP) Sep 27, 2006 - China's ruling Communist Party will hold its annual plenary session from October 8-11, state press said Wednesday, a meeting that could seal the political fate of ousted Shanghai boss Chen Liangyu. The session will debate and approve a 2007 economic and social development plan centered on building a harmonious socialist society, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a a decision by president and party chief Hu Jintao.

Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Sets Date For Potential World-Record IPO

Shanghai (AFP) Sep 27, 2006 - Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the nation's largest lender, announced Wednesday it would list in Shanghai and Hong Kong on October 27 in what could be a world-record initial public offering. In a prospectus published in China's official financial press, the bank said it would issue 13 billion yuan-denominated A-shares in Shanghai, subject to an extra allotment option that could lift the total to 14.95 billion share.

Boston MA (SPX) Sep 26, 2006 - MIT researchers are putting a tiny gas-turbine engine inside a silicon chip about the size of a quarter. The resulting device could run 10 times longer than a battery of the same weight can, powering laptops, cell phones, radios and other electronic devices. It could also dramatically lighten the load for people who can't connect to a power grid, including soldiers who now must carry many pounds of batteries for a three-day mission -- all at a reasonable price.
