Making US Nuclear Materials More Secure

Washington (UPI) Oct 20, 2006 - The U.S. Department of Energy is preparing to alter its method of securing nuclear materials because of environmental considerations. The Federal Register reported Oct. 19 that the Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration is issuing a Supplement to the Stockpile Stewardship and Management Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement -- Complex 2030 to analyze the environmental impacts of transforming the U.S. nuclear weapons arsenal over the next 24 years.

Putin Calls For National Energy Sector Development Plan

Harvesting Machine Driving Mesquite-to-Ethanol Potential

Vernon TX (SPX) Oct 12, 2006 - Knocking down mesquite hasn't been a problem in the past. Picking it up and getting it off the land has, said a Texas Agricultural Experiment Station researcher. That will change with a new mesquite harvester for use in wood-to-ethanol production, said Dr. Jim Ansley, Experiment Station rangeland ecologist. The only one of these machines in existence was demonstrated at the 2006 Range and Wildlife Field Day on Oct. 5 in Vernon.

Russia-Germany Energy Cooperation Could Be Extended

Dresden (RIA Novosti) Oct 11, 2006 - Energy cooperation between Russia and Germany could be extended so that the FRG could turn from a consumer to a large European distribution center for natural gas and oil, Russia's president said Tuesday. Russia and Germany have been expanding their energy ties lately, in particular through the Nord Stream pipeline between the two countries (the North European Gas Pipeline), of which former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder heads the shareholders' board.

Russian Export Blend Could Replace Urals Crude As Main Index Setter

Moscow (RIA Novosti) Oct 10, 2006 - REBCO, Russia's new export blend crude oil, should replace Urals blend as the basis for calculating supply prices, export duties and mineral extraction tax, a deputy economics minister said Monday. There is a possibility of shifting from Urals to REBCO in [calculating] mineral extraction tax and export duties in 2008, and of making REBCO Russia's price index, Kirill Androsov told a news conference.
