Top Multinationals Pledge To Cut Carbon Pollution

Paris (AFP) Feb 01, 2007 - Some of the very corporations once vilified by environmentalists promised on Thursday to reduce by 10 million tons annually their collective output of carbon dioxide, the main cause of global warming, the World Wildlife Fund announced. Sony, Nike, IMB, Polaroid, building-materials giant Lafarge and seven other top multinationals said they would fulfill their carbon pledge by no later than 2010.

US To Send Clean Energy Mission To China And India

Washington DC (AFP) Jan 29, 2007 - The United States is to send a mission to China and India to market technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the world's two most populous nations, the US Commerce Department said Monday. The clean-energy technologies trade mission in April will be lead by US Commerce Assistant Secretary David Bohigian and involve a broad range of technologies such as renewable energy, energy efficiency and clean coal.

Crude Prices Retreat Amid Rising US Reserves

New York (AFP) Jan 25, 2007 - Global oil prices skidded lower Thursday despite colder US winter weather as the market focused on rising energy reserves in the United States, analysts said. New York's main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for delivery in March, slumped 1.14 dollars to close at 54.23 dollars a barrel. In London, the price of Brent North Sea crude for March delivery slid 1.31 dollars to settle at 54.12 dollars a barrel.

Portugal Wants Renewables To Meet Nearly Half Of Its Electricity Needs

Lisbon (AFP) Jan 24, 2007 - Portugal wants renewable energy sources like wind and wave power to account for nearly half of the electricity consumed in the country by 2010, Prime Minister Jose Socrates said Wednesday. The Socialist government will work to ensure that 45 percent of the nation's electricity output in three years comes from renewable sources, he said during a debate in parliament, up from a previous target of 39 percent.

B-52 Undergoes Synthetic-Fuel Cold Weather Testing At Minot

Minot AFB (SPX) Jan 23, 2007 - A B-52 Stratofortess powered by a mix of synthetic fuel arrived here Jan. 17 for cold-weather testing, the last step in the testing and certification process to help reduce Air Force dependence on imported fuel. The aircraft, permanently assigned to the 5th Bomb Wing here, will undergo ground testing today through the beginning of February to determine how well the synthetic fuel, made from a 50-50 blend of traditional crude oil-based fuel and a Fischer-Tropsch fuel derived from natural gas, performs in extreme weather conditions.

H2Gen Provides Hydrogen Generator For Orlando Energy Station

Alexandria VA (SPX) Jan 23, 2007 - H2Gen Innovations has announced that it has delivered its factory-tested HGM 2000 hydrogen generation system to Chevron Hydrogen Company, for use in Chevron's hydrogen energy station being constructed near the Orlando, Florida airport. The fueling station at Orlando, funded in part by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, is expected to be operational by early 2007 and will support hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine powered buses that will be used at the airport.
