China Hits Back On Climate Change After Being Tagged Top Culprit

Beijing (AFP) June 21, 2007 - China on Thursday accused the developed world of hypocrisy on climate change as it defended itself against a report that said it had passed the United States as the world's top emitter of carbon dioxide. A Dutch government research body said Tuesday that China's carbon dioxide emissions -- the main greenhouse gas responsible for global warming -- surpassed those of the United States by eight percent in 2006.

Engineers Develop Higher-Energy Liquid-Transportation Fuel From Sugar

Variations on this process provide fuel for all of life on Earth. Reporting in the June 21 issue of the journal Nature, University of Wisconsin-Madison chemical and biological engineering Professor James Dumesic and his research team describe a two-stage process for turning biomass-derived sugar into 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMF), a liquid transportation fuel with 40 percent greater energy density than ethanol.

Gas Prices Worry Americans More Than Terrorism Or Economy

OPEC Wants Reasonable Price For Its Oil

Vienna (AFP) June 21, 2007 - OPEC Secretary-General Abdullah al-Badri said Thursday his group was committed to selling its crude oil for an unspecified reasonable price, while coolly receiving EU plans for boosting biofuels. Speaking during an energy meeting with European Union leaders, Badri declined to detail the price level sought by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, saying: I do not want to go through figures, but everybody knows what a reasonable price is.
