The Energy Daily Editorial Team produces Energy Daily's coverage of the global energy industry. We report on oil and gas, power grids and utilities, energy markets and policy, and the renewables and storage reshaping how the world is powered. Articles reflect our team's collective editorial process, source verification, drafting, technical review, and editing, rather than a single writer's work. Learning The Lessons Of Oil Crises

Moscow (RIA Novosti) Oct 29, 2007 - Oil prices on the world's commodity markets have topped $90 per barrel. Black gold now costs more than it did during the fuel crisis of 1973 (with a correction for inflation), and is just ten dollars below its 1980 record high. Analysts say a new record could be set before the end of this year. However, such forecasts do not cause panic in the Western world, where consumers have learned over the past few decades to live with the fact that cheap oil is a thing of the past.

Ethanol blends are already available at some gas stations. However, their availability varies from state to state, depending on the volume of ethanol produced. Sources of biomass for biofuel production in each state also vary widely.

Current estimates allocate Azerbaijan 0.6 percent of global proven oil reserves while Baku's rapidly expanding energy infrastructure in 2006 shipped 50 percent more than in 2005.
