New Form Of Compound Stimulates Research On Hydrogen Storage

Grenoble, France (SPX) Dec 05, 2007 - Research on hydrogen-fueled cars may be one step closer to application thanks to a new form of hydride discovered by scientists at the ESRF. The material, lithium borohydride, is a promising energy storage system: it contains 18 weight percents of hydrogen, which makes it attractive for use in hydrogen-fueled cars. Its drawback is that it only releases hydrogen at quite high temperatures (above 300 degrees C).

Canadian Govt Calls On Industry To Participate In New Biofuels Initiative

Quebec City, Canada (SPX) Dec 04, 2007 - More Canadians will soon be putting cleaner biofuels in their vehicles such as ethanol and biodiesel. The Honourable Gerry Ritz, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board, has announced program details and eligibility requirements for $1.5 billion in biofuel production incentives available through the Government of Canada's ecoENERGY for Biofuels initiative.

PPL To Develop Renewable Energy Generating Facility At Pennsylvania Landfill

Allentown PA (SPX) Dec 04, 2007 - PPL Renewable Energy will develop and install a 6.4- megawatt methane-to-electricity power generation system at the Community Refuse Service Landfill in Shippensburg, Pa., the company announced last Thursday. Community Refuse Service Landfill, an affiliate of Interstate Waste Services, will provide 3.2 million cubic feet of methane gas every day to power four Caterpillar generators at the 250-acre facility. The companies expect the project to be operational by Dec. 31, 2008.
