Globecomm Systems has reported that it has received an order for eight lightweight, rapid deploy flyaway terminals for secure broadband communications from a major United States Government customer.

The 0.77m lightweight rapid deploy terminal was first introduced by Globecomm in May 2005 and has an average list price of approximately one hundred twenty thousand dollars per unit.

It is composed of two suitcases, which meet the requirements for airline baggage check, can receive Internet Protocol (IP) data rates ranging from 64 kbps to 9.1 Mbps and send data rates from 64 kbps to 2 Mbps.

The terminal is suited for tactical support of military and peacekeeping operations and has been under going testing by various military agencies since its introduction.

The Company has identified multiple opportunities for this terminal exceeding six hundred units, which Globecomm intends to vigorously pursue.
