The Russian government approved Thursday the federal target program on the development of space centers for 2006-2015, reports RIA Novosti.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov presented the program during a regular Cabinet meeting.
He said the implementation of the program would require budget financing in the amount of $946 million.
The program will prioritize the construction of launch facilities at the Plesetsk Space Center for the Angara-A5 heavy carrier rocket, which is being developed by the Khrunichev State Space Scientific Production Center, Ivanov said.
The new launch facilities, which account for 80%-90% of budget funds, will enable Russia to stop using the Baikonur and Svobodny Space Centers for military and national security purposes in the future, he added.
