NASA announced Monday it has appointed Charles H. Scales as the new associate administrator for its Office of Institutions and Management. Scales will manage the operational and management support activities across the agency, and ensures the agency work force, infrastructure and facility capabilities are working together to support the space agency's long-range needs.

A NASA veteran of more than 33 years, Scales moves to agency headquarters from Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. There, he has been deputy director in the Office of Center Operations since 2005. Prior to that, Scales served as director of the Center Operations Directorate at Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

Scales began his NASA career in 1973 as a cooperative education student in the Management Services Office at Marshall.

The Office of Institutions and Management has a diversified portfolio and manages the following agency offices: Diversity and Equal Opportunity, Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization, Procurement, Human Capital Management, Infrastructure and Administration and the NASA Shared Services Center.
