Mobile Satellite Ventures, L.P. (MSV) today praised the efforts of Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) and Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), for introducing the Communications, Consumer's Choice and Broadband Deployment Act of 2006 (S.2686) last week. The draft legislation allocates funds for a strategic technology reserve through which equipment is pre-positioned or secured in advance for use in an emergency or major disaster.
"The ability of emergency responders to have access to communications services in times of emergency is critical," said Alexander H. Good, MSV's Vice Chairman and CEO. "We fully support the efforts of Senators Stevens and Inouye and ask the House to consider similar legislation to ensure the availability of communications for our nation's emergency responders."
MSV believes that this legislation will ensure that emergency responders have access to funding to ensure access to its current and next-generation satellite services.
"It is imperative that our emergency responders have access to the communications equipment and services they need in case of emergencies. By providing that adequate funding is available for pre-positioning of critical satellite equipment, the Senate is taking the lead in ensuring the safety of all Americans," said Jim Corry, Vice President of Government Solutions.
Corry added that MSV's next generation integrated satellite-terrestrial network, which is anticipated to be available as early as 2009, "will further help in the preparedness of our first responders by providing ubiquitous, reliable, fully interoperable access to an integrated terrestrial-satellite network on a cost-effective basis."
