SVTC Technologies has announced that its SVTC Solar business unit has welcomed JA Solar as a customer for its new Silicon Valley Photovoltaic Development Center. JA Solar, a China-based manufacturer of high-performance silicon wafer solar cells, will use the center to develop new products for the solar market.

"JA Solar is an established, global manufacturer of photovoltaic (PV) products, and it's a testament to the quality of our new facility and our vision for the solar industry that they have signed on as a customer," said Kurt Laetz, SVTC Solar program manager.

"We expect that other leading solar manufacturers, as well as start-up and yet-to-be-introduced companies, will also join the Silicon Valley Photovoltaic Development Center."

JA Solar was established in July 2006 as the holding company of JingAo Solar Co., Ltd., a joint venture between the JingLong Industry And Commerce Group Co., Ltd.; the Australia PV Science and Engineering Company; and the Australia Solar Development Company. JA Solar went public in a highly successful IPO in February 2007.

JA Solar's product focus is on mono-crystalline silicon solar cells that feature advanced diffusion techniques and advanced PECVD film forming. The company's solar cells are used extensively in photovoltaic-generated electricity for power stations, residential power and in fields including telecommunications and transportation.

"We are very impressed with the Silicon Valley Photovoltaic Development Center's facilities, services and goals," said Dr. Kang Sun, president and chief operating officer of JA Solar. "We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the center and with SVTC Solar, which we expect will result in our ability to develop exciting new products for our customers worldwide."

The Silicon Valley Photovoltaic Development Center has entered into agreements with additional customers – start-up companies who wish to remain confidential at this time – to use the center for their solar development efforts.
