Five European countries will work together on a joint project to enhance European capabilities in energetic materials.
The European Defense Agency announced that Sweden, Germany, the Czech Republic, as well as the Netherlands and Norway will work together on the project over a four-year period.
"The new research project builds on acquired expertise from the previous EDA Formulation and Production of New Energetic Materials project in the framework of the agency's capability technology group dealing with ammunition technologies," the EDA said.
"Under the lead of Sweden, experts will develop mutual awareness and knowledge of selected future energetic materials, production methods for critical components including raw materials, and small scale evaluation methods."
Energetic materials are used in explosives, pyrotechnic compositions, propellants and fuels.
Cobham gets $18 million electronic warfare order

Cobham has received $18 million in orders from an unidentified defense firm in support of an airborne electronic warfare program, the company announced Monday.
The contract involves radio frequency microelectronics and antenna assemblies.
The work will be performed at the Pennsylvania and California locations of Cobham Advanced Electronics Solutions.
"Our microelectronic components and assemblies enable EW system sensitivity while our strong antenna expertise helps the warfighter communicate, maintain situational awareness and stay safe," Cobham Advanced Electronics Solutions President Jill Kale said in a statement.
Cobham's advance electronic division provide electronic attack, electronic protection and electronic warfare support capabilities for land, sea and air operations.
The company's electronic warfare offerings include microelectronic components, integrated assemblies modules and subsystems and antenna and jammer solutions, among others.
