The first-ever exhibition by Chinese engineering and technology firms in Europe opens in Budapest on Wednesday, the Chinese commerce ministry said in a statement issued in Budapest.
A total of 70 companies will be taking part in the four-day event covering the construction, transportation, telecommunication and aerospace sectors, the ministry – which is organising the exhibition – said in a statement issued through the Chinese embassy in Budapest.
"The exhibition will be the first exposition focusing on engineering and technology sponsored by the Chinese government in Europe," the statement said.
"This exhibition will be a good opportunity … to understand the capacities and achievements of Chinese enterprises … (and) will also serve as an excellent platform for the business community in Europe to conduct trade promotion activities."
The ministry said China intends to use Hungary, where some 20,000 Chinese live, as a base to expand its economic interests in central and eastern Europe.
Business leaders from several neighbouring countries are also expected to attend the exhibition, which has already gone to Brazil, India, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.
There are currently more than 1,800 Chinese companies licensed to compete for engineering contracts worldwide, according to the ministry.
