Magellan and Intermap Technologies has announced the first commercial availability of AccuTerra maps for Magellan Triton and eXplorist handheld GPS, providing outdoor enthusiasts with advanced topographic maps and off-road points of interest.

"We are pleased that Magellan has chosen to complement its product lines with the nation's best recreational map content for GPS devices," said Eric DesRoche, senior vice president of automotive and consumer electronics for Intermap.

"The augmentation of Magellan's leading handheld GPS products with our AccuTerra GPS maps enhances the user's experience and expands the possibilities afforded to recreational enthusiasts who use GPS devices to master the great outdoors."

Magellan customers now have access to digital terrain data, off-road and recreation-related roads, trails, and points-of-interest such as campgrounds, service facilities, and landmarks.

Additionally, customers can benefit from a land-management data layer that displays the location of public lands (national forest, wilderness areas, state parks, etc.) and private property for most recreation areas in the United States.

Customers can now download maps for the lower 48 states and Hawaii from the Magellan website for use during the summer recreation season.

"Magellan is committed to providing our customers the broadest choice of quality maps and advanced content by partnering with the best-in-class content creators," said Christian Bubenheim, vice president of product marketing for Magellan.

"When our customers use AccuTerra on their Magellan GPS devices, they aren't just getting a map, they are getting access to every surrounding detail – all in one powerful device."
