Americom Government Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SES Americom, announced last Thursday it received a ten-year contract through Lockheed Martin Transportation and Security Services (LMTSS) to support the space-based navigation services of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The contract will provide necessary satellite communication resources required to ensure an increased level of service both on the ground and in the air.
The handling of operations, maintenance, monitoring and logistics for the GEO Uplink Subsystem (GUS) Type-1 will be provided by AGS through the use of Americom Teleport stations. This service will support the Geostationary Communications and Control Segment (GCCS) of the FAA's Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS).
In partnership with LMTSS, AGS will interface the GCCS with the existing WAAS terrestrial infrastructure offering the use of the WAAS Signals-in-Space, enabling the successful broadcasting of navigation messages 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
