About 130 Russian armoured vehicles on Thursday moved out of Georgia's western flashpoint city Zugdidi and penetrated deeper into Georgian territory, a top Georgian official said.
After leaving Zugdidi and travelling in the direction of Kutaisi, Georgia's second-largest city, the vehicles stopped in the village of Teklati, Interior Ministry Spokesman Shota Utiashvili told AFP.
"For the moment there is no movement towards Kutaisi," he said.
Teklati is about six kilometres (four miles) from the city of Senaki, where a Georgian military base had previously been seized by Russian forces. Senaki is 40 kilometres (25 miles) south of Zugdidi.
