Kiev, Russia (RIA Novosti) May 19, 2010
Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday he hoped Russia and Ukraine would draw up a cooperation plan for the next ten years.

"I think we should set ambitious aims. During visits to other states we always look ahead and think about how our trade and economic relations will look after three, five, seven years," Medvedev said at a press conference during his two-day visit to Kiev.

"Viktor Fedorovitch [Yanykovych] and I have also spoken about this and have come to an agreement that we will create a special plan, coordinating our social and economic development over the next 10 years."

Medvedev also said the two countries should implement a long-term plan for trade turnover.

"I believe that if we now have a level of $35-40 billion...in the future we should set an aim of $100 billion. That is the level that corresponds to the size of our economies and our desires to develop mutual cooperation."

Medvedev praised his Ukrainian counterpart for implementing his promises and being a good partner.
