L-3 Communications has announced that its Henschel subsidiary received a $7.6 million base contract, including four option years valued at $30 million, from the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command.

L-3 Henschel will provide Data Acquisition Units (DAU) for four ships, a Land Based Emulation System (LBES) and a Great Lakes Training System, along with engineering services, provisioning and spare parts, in support of the CG-47 Ticonderoga Class Cruiser Integrated Ship Controls (ISC) Program.

The DAU provides the common interface for the wide range of data formats found in shipboard engineering and control systems. The DAU conditions and translates these varied formats to maximize the integration of these ship control functions.

"This award highlights L-3 Henschel's expertise and critical value to the U.S. Navy as a primary supplier of ship control systems and strengthens our long term relationship with NAVSEA," said Don Roussinos, president of L-3 Henschel. "Our products are part of the initial Smartship Upgrade and our value continues as the program experiences this latest transformation to integrate ship controls."

Located in Newburyport, Massachusetts, L-3 Henschel is a leading supplier of design, engineering, manufacturing and integration of shipboard communications, navigation and control systems, and produces other technologically-advanced solutions for naval applications such as the integrated communications system for the USS VIRGINIA-class attack submarines; the amplified announcing system for the SAN ANTONIO-class amphibious ships; the video data distribution system for the ARLEIGH BURKE-class Guided Missile Destroyers and the computer information system and integrated communication system for the UK HMS ASTUTE-class submarines.
