Cameroon Banks On VSAT


Germantown Md - July 1, 1998 -
Hughes Network Systems (HNS), the leading provider of very small aperture terminals (VSAT) with 65 percent of the global market and 95 percent of the African market, today announced that it has agreed to supply its PES(TM) VSAT system to INTELCAM, Cameroon's national telecommunications provider. Implementation of the banking network is expected to be completed by the fall of 1998; with the main hub will be located in Yaounde and additional sites deployed throughout Cameroon.

Headquartered in Yaounde, Cameroon, this banking network using Integrated Satellite Business Network(TM) (ISBN(TM)) will provide cost-effective transmission of data, voice, and video communications to a wide variety of banking customers. Supported applications include: platform operations (e.g., checking, loan processing); teller operations; 24-hour automatic teller machines (ATMs); and alarm and security monitoring applications. The ISBN's high system availability and quick response times ensure excellent support for these applications, independent of branch office locations. Because the ISBN's cost is independent of distance, it is especially cost-effective for banks with branches located over a wide area.
