juwi has a new partner: Mannheim-based MVV Energie AG is to acquire a 50.1 percent majority shareholding interest in juwi AG via a capital increase. The transaction is expected to close no later than December 31, 2014. The two companies agreed to keep the financial and organizational details of the transaction confidential. For juwi, the conclusion of this new strategic partnership is an important milestone that will strengthen and enhance its core business of project development, construction and operations and maintenance. The German stock listed energy player MVV Energie AG with an annual revenue of around four billion Euro and 5,400 staff plans to further expand its commitment in the renewable energy sector through this new investment. The transaction between the two successful companies marks a historic milestone in the German energy industry. For Fred Jung and Matthias Willenbacher, the co-founders of juwi, the transaction represents a major building block for sustainable growth in the juwi Group: "We are delighted to be teaming up with Mannheim-based MVV Energie AG, which is already extremely active in the field of renewable energies and is now interested in the sustainable and strategic expansion of this commitment together with us." For MVV Energie AG, the partnership with juwi represents the systematic evolution of its strategic orientation: "The ongoing transformation of energy supply structures in Germany centers on an efficient and environmentally-friendly combination of renewable and conventional energies as pillars in the energy system of the future", Dr. Georg Muller, Chief Executive of MVV, said, and added that the strategic investment and cooperation offered juwi, its project partners and other interested parties necessary stability and complementary development perspectives. Under this new corporate structure, juwi will systematically continue realizing its well-filled project pipeline and also moving forward with marketing its projects to interested investors. The Executive Boards of both companies see the new partnership as a historic milestone in the energy industry: "We have succeeded in bringing together the energy business know-how of an established energy group and the expertise of an experienced project developer in the field of renewable energies. This combination means we are prepared to face the upcoming challenges of the energy market and are well positioned to deal with issues relating to all aspects of clean energy generation including the engineering side of EPC projects as well as the integration and marketing of clean power. In addition, this new partnership brings fresh tailwind to our international projects: The outstanding reputation of MVV Energie AG on the financial market also increases the likelihood of implementing several international projects." Together with MVV Energie AG, Jung and Willenbacher, who will jointly hold 49.9 percent of the shares of juwi AG going forward, plan to intensify the juwi Group's focus on the business areas of project development, construction and operations and management in Germany and other countries. "We are optimistic we will bring the remaining aspects of our restructuring and reorientation to a successful conclusion in the coming months," the two energy pioneers said. Jung and Willenbacher have been realigning and reorienting their company to the constantly changing political framework ever since the German market for large-scale solar plants slumped in 2012. "We would like to thank everyone involved in the successful preparation of the transaction with MVV Energie AG for their extraordinary commitment", Jung and Willenbacher stated. The next task over the coming weeks will be to implement cooperation at operational level and jointly move forward with projects. In other international markets, juwi remains a highly sought-after project development, EPC (engineering-procurement-construction) and O&M partner. The Group will continue to expand its project pipeline and internationally utility scale solar shows the strongest growth. . "In a global context there is enormous potential for the efficient use of renewable energy, particularly wind and solar energy. In light of our outstanding accomplishments as a project development and EPC partner on almost every continent we want to harness these opportunities and continuously expand our international business", Stephan Hansen, the juwi Executive Board member responsible for international business, underscored. Apart from the new partner, the stable and profitable core business in Germany is helping the juwi Group with realignment: By the end of September, juwi had already realized over twenty wind projects this year throughout Germany with a total capacity of approx. 200 megawatt. Several other projects with a total capacity of approx. 100 megawatt are currently at the construction stage. juwi is optimistic for the coming years thanks to a well-filled project pipeline all around the world.
