GDF Suez optimizes LNG deliveries

French energy company GDF Suez said Tuesday it optimized its shipping capacities of liquefied natural gas by splitting deliveries between two charters.

GDF Suez said it shipped LNG that originated from a liquefaction plant in Norway from the coast of France on a second tanker bound for end consumers in Asia.

"The contract for this transshipment service has enabled GDF SUEZ to optimize management of its shipping capacities by chartering one vessel, the Grace Dahlia, on a short-term basis for the first leg of the route, while using the Grace Barleria, a medium-term charter vessel in its fleet, for the second leg," the company explained in a statement.

The French company said efficiency for LNG tanker fleets has become a "major challenge" for the industry. Splitting deliveries into several smaller shipments, it said, gives the company new flexibility.

There was no statement from GDF Suez on the volume of LNG delivered.
